The Sandhill takes its name from the glacial erratics deposited throughout Southeast Michigan 12,000 years ago. As the ice retreated, it left behind massive landforms of sand, gravel, and stone—elevated vantage points to view the surrounding marshes and forests. We think there is something special about the way the landscape creates perspective. We build and design with that same sense of permanence, always with an eye on the details. We think of homes as a place of retreat and gathering, unique to you and your family.

With over 20 years spent perfecting his craft on jobsites, Benjamin understands that a well-built space is all about execution, integrity, and detail. After a decade of working alongside some of the best and most respected builders in Southeast Michigan, Benjamin founded The Sandhill in 2016 with a clear mission: to build custom, client-responsive spaces while redefining the construction experience to be transparent, collaborative, and genuinely enjoyable. As Lead Carpenter and General Contractor, he remains actively onsite from design to completion—meticulously editing every detail of the build to ensure the final reality matches the initial vision.
Benjamin lives on a sandhill in the Waterloo Recreation Area and holds an MFA in writing, with a small novel floating around out in the world somewhere. When not at work, he’s often wandering the woods or on a beach. He really likes your dog.
Vince
designer, design Coordinator, Licensed mechanical contractor
Vince’s background in sculpture, industrial design, and interior design helps him serve as our project designer and design coordinator. He works closely with the client and the design team to make sure project expectations are met. His background gives him an innate understanding of materials and colors, structural aesthetics, and spatial harmony. By pairing this artistic foundation with hands-on HVAC service expertise, Vince possesses a unique blend of aesthetic sensibilities and practical mechanical knowledge. From initial sketches to final handoff, he ensures that every detail of a project is well designed, sound, and continuously managed.
Vince Lives in a historic home in Ypsilanti, and in his free time strives to grow the perfect gardens if he’s not backpacking some remote wilderness. He also very much likes your dog.
